Recent setback won’t stop Tan from doing what he loves

Filipino veteran Trestle “Jun Minion” Tan may have lost his last battle in overwhelming fashion, but he's far from disheartened.

Tan failed to capture the elusive win after suffering a first-round TKO loss against South Korea’s “The Big Heart” Yoon Chang Min in one of the preliminary bouts of ONE: LEGENDARY QUEST at the Baoshan Arena in Shanghai, China last Saturday, 15 June.

The match was explosive from the get-go, with the 25-year-old South Korean standout getting the takedown in the opening moments of the bout after Tan got the better of their opening exchange

After rolling with Yoon on the ground, Tan looked visibly tired and it was evident in the next sequence.

The South Korean tagged Tan left and right on the feet, forcing the referee to stop the contest with 55 seconds left in the opening round.

“The game was perfect [for me] in the opening minutes but after scrambling to the ground I felt really tired. I think there's something wrong with my fitness conditioning [program] because two weeks ago I changed my program," Tan shared

“The game plan was on point. The thing is, I was really confident in my boxing and ground game, but I feel gassed out after 3-4 minutes of hard battle," he added. “The loss might be a bitter pill for me to take, but I am sure that I will learn many things from it."

Though the result did not go his way, Tan remained confident of himself. The match exposed things that the 34-year-old needs to work on, and that is exactly what he will be focusing on moving forward.

“I never give up no matter what. I just need to adjust my fitness conditioning and keep training hard. I will keep doing BJJ competition after I recover," Tan said.

“I trained almost every day to improve. I’ll take this loss as a big lesson. I'm confident that I’ll come back stronger after this.”

While the loss was certainly a tough one, Tan promises a different athlete the next time he steps foot inside the ONE Championship stage.

He was also thankful for ONE for giving him opportunities after opportunities amid his struggles.

“I’m really good with ONE. I’m really happy with how they take care of me before and after my fights. I thank them so much. To be honest, I’m a bit disappointed but I believe I will come back no matter what and get that win next time,” said Tan.

"I'll take my game to the next level, and I guarantee that you will be seeing a different Trestle Tan in my next outing.”
