Yield Guild Games, a Filipino-led decentralized gaming guild that lends gaming NFT assets to players so they can start playing and earning from blockchain games with no upfront cost, announced it has partnered with and invested in eight NFT games from October 2021, namely Influence, CyBall, Thetan Arena, KOGs SLAM!, MOBOX, Aavegotchi, DeHorizon, and Genopets. Established in late 2020, YGG now has over 18 leading games in its portfolio for the benefit of its players including Axie Infinity, Splinterlands, Zed Run, and others.

After generating a total US$22.4M earlier this year, with US$9.9M raised via an initial round led by Delphi Digital, an intermediate round led by BITKRAFT, and an advanced round led by a16z, plus an initial sale of its tokens to gamers for US$12.5M, YGG is using the funds to purchase assets in leading NFT games for the purpose of providing its community with opportunities to play and earn income in blockchain-based game economies. A full overview of YGG’s crypto assets can be found in their latest Asset & Treasury Report.

“Community involvement is a key factor of any potential YGG game purchase,” said Sarutobi Sasuke, Head of Partnerships at YGG, describing YGG’s approach to assessing the opportunity associated with various NFT games. “The team reviews the gameplay and game economics to ensure that the games have a robust and fair game economy that rewards players adequately for the time and effort put in by them,” he said, adding that it is also important for the game to have a guild, team, or league component as it incentivizes group effort among the guild’s scholars.

Below is an overview of YGG’s most recently announced game partnerships including details of the in-game assets the guild has purchased as well as the benefit they will deliver to players.

1.     Influence

Influence is an immersive space strategy massively multiplayer online game (MMO) that offers engaging gameplay along with true ownership of NFT game assets. Players compete through multiple avenues including mining, building, trading, researching, and fighting, and interact in an immersive 3D universe through third-person control of their ships and the installations they build. Through the introduction of their soon-to-launch token, SWAY, which players can earn through gameplay, Influence allows players to facilitate in-game transactions for resources, components, ships, and asteroids.

YGG has purchased the 46th largest Asteroid in Influence, KJ-44947, a C-Type carbonaceous asteroid. In addition to this, YGG has also acquired approximately 30 smaller asteroids for the YGG community to use.

2.     CyBall

CyBall is a soccer-themed, cyberpunk-esque play-to-earn game where players can collect, trade, mentor, and battle CyBlocs, which are fantasy cyborg characters represented as collectible and tradable NFTs on the blockchain. Players train their CyBlocs to compete in various game modes with varying levels of rewards. Existing CyBlocs can also “mentor” junior CyBlocs, creating the next generation of unique NFTs.

In partnership with CyBall, YGG acquired part of the initial Genesis CyBloc NFT packs, which will enable YGG to equip at least 1,000 CyBall scholars right from the start.

3.     Thetan Arena

This mobile-friendly multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game allows players to gather friends, form a team, battle with others, and earn token rewards with a combination of gaming skills and teamwork. The game is available in free-to-play mode, where players can earn in-game tokens called Thetan Coin (THC). Alongside this, the game has a play-to-earn mode with more token-earning opportunities using Premium Heroes.

YGG participated in Thetan Arena’s token sale and acquired 250 Common Heroes, 100 Epic Heroes, and 50 Legendary Heroes.

4.     KOGs SLAM!

Developed by RFOX, KOGs SLAM! is a blockchain mobile game with rules similar to the POGs game that became a phenomenon in the 1990s. However, KOGs SLAM! comes in an evolved digital form that uses NFT collectibles as game pieces to play with and earn rewards. Keys to Other Games (KOGs) are “Šcollectible, playable, tradable, slammable NFTs that can be used only on the WAX blockchain. KOGs SLAM! introduces a play-to-earn model to millions of users in the Southeast Asian region where players can win KOGs and in-game tokens called KOINS from daily missions and tournaments, right from the get-go, and trade their winnings for real-life earnings.

YGG has also acquired one of two Marquee Brand SHOPs in the Gaming quarter of the RFOX VALT, an interactive and fully immersive shopping experience that combines gaming elements and forms its own standalone Metaverse virtual reality. YGG members will be able to visit YGG’s SHOP to interact with the community, collect NFTs, play games, and much more, all in VR.

5.     MOBOX

A leading project on the Binance Smart Chain, MOBOX is a community-driven gaming platform that combines yield farming and in-game NFTs to create a free-to-play and play-to-earn ecosystem. MOBOX has released four titles under its platform, namely MOMO: Block Brawl, MOMO: Token Master, MOMO: Farmer, and Trade Action. MBOX, the native governance token of the MOBOX DAO, can be implemented to acquire additional characters, lottery wheels, and incentives.

YGG has acquired five YGG-branded Legendary MOMO NFTs along with 100 KEYS that can be utilized across all MOBOX titles to farm MBOX tokens.

6.     Aavegotchi

Aavegotchi brings back the nostalgia of the virtual pet game Tamagotchi, only this time with pixelated ghosts that inhabit the Ethereum blockchain and make use of the Polygon network. Backed by the ERC-721 standard, these NFTs are valued by their rarity level, which is calculated via multiple factors, including base traits, equipped wearables, and amount of staked collateral such as interest-bearing tokens from the Aave Protocol. A player can visit their land by connecting their wallets and rent it out to Aavegotchis to share a split of the farming yield and unlock more farming potential, as well as the full breadth of social and exploratory gameplay.

YGG and its subDAOs Yield Guild SEA (South East Asia) and Yield Guild ASIA have purchased exclusive YGG-themed land plots (REALM parcels) along with Aavegotchi avatars. Wearables will also be acquired in preparation for gameplay when the Gotchiverse goes live in December of this year.

7.     DeHorizon

YGG scholars can also jump into the epic fantasy world of the DeHorizon metaverse, where players can play for fun and to earn. Built on Ethereum-EVM compatible chains, DeHorizon games will let players explore the open world of epic battles, minting NFT monsters, mining resources, embarking on heroic quests, taming wild creatures, and much more. DeHorizon games include group-versus-group adventure game DeVerse, weekly-based battle royale DeTournament, dragon-riding fantasy sports game DeQuidditch, and much more.

YGG has made a purchase of assets in DeHorizon games that include exclusive weapons, equipment, a Dragon racing team, a DeMeta Pass ID, and 40 monsters called JuJus, which will also be specially customized to represent YGG.

8.     Genopets

YGG also continued to expand its collection of game assets within the Solana ecosystem by partnering with Genopets, a play-to-earn game at the forefront of incorporating move-to-play mechanics and incentivizing physical activity. Genopets are generative NFTs that evolve and can be upgraded and customized with eight variable bionic features and extremities, falling under the category of one of five elemental types. Combining the nurturing of Tamagotchi with the training and battling of Pokémon through asynchronous puzzle mini-games, the game converts users’ real-life movement into XP (experience points) to progress in-game.

YGG has purchased custom-branded Genopets Habitats along with Genopets governance tokens called GENE.
