Late-game adjustments allowed the Philippine Malditas national women’s football team to score in the closing minutes of the game, and get past Nepal, 2-1.

National coach Marlon Maro said this as the Malditas moved a game close of  qualifying to the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022 last Saturday.

“The new players played well and initiated the first goal,” said Maro. “Our adjustments in the second half resulted in us scoring in the last five minutes,” said Maro in a postgame huddle at JAR Stadium in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The goals went in when  Tahnai Annis and Camille Wilson attacked in the 90th and 92nd minutes, earning the Philippines the needed three points in Group F.

The Philippines went in a defensive mode for almost 80 minutes after Nepal sent in a goal behind after Bimala Chaudhary netted in the ball  in the 10th minute.

Maro said they adjusted by putting four attacking forwards up front to pressure Nepal’s defense.

On the other hand,  Nepal had only one striker seeking to score a goal in the second half.

The Philippines next clashes with Hong Kong on Friday, September 24.

The Malditas are supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, MVP Sports Foundation and Team Manager Jefferson Cheng.
