After Samantha Catantan finished with a bronze medal in the women’s foil, members of the Philippine national fencing team came up with decent performance on Monday in the ongoing 2021 Asia-Oceania Olympic qualifiers in fencing in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Two-time Southeast Asian Games bronze medallist Nathaniel Perez came up with a six-game sweep of the first round to advance to the tougher single-elimination second-round.

But a 9-15 loss from Chih Chieh Chien of Taipei in the round of 16 put Perez out of contention.

Noelito Jose absorbed a 14-15 loss to Mohsin Abbas of Iraq to end his campaign in the men’s sabre.

An individual bronze winner in the 2019 SEA Games, Jose got far until his showdown with Abbas in the Round of 16.

Nicanor was sixth place behind gold medallist Zaynab Dayibekova of Uzbekistan, who turned back Aigerim Sarybay of Kazakhstan, 15-6.

Hong Kong's Lam Hin Wai, who ousted Nicanor in the quarterfinals, 15-12, settled for the bronze.
