PH athletes don’t need to acclimate in Tokyo

There are no changes in the number of events that will be played and the number of athletes that will participate.

But, participating athletes do not have to come early for the Tokyo Olympics.

Philippine chef de mission Mariano “Nonong” Araneta said this ahead of a Tokyo Olympic Games CDM meeting that will take place online on Tuesday.

“Wala pa rin pagbabago sa number of sports at sa number of athletes na magka-qualify. Pero, nawawala iyung training before the Olympics. Iyung need to be there to acclimatize,” said Araneta.

Araneta, who guested in the weekly program,”Power and Play” that’s hosted by Noli Eala, talked about the coming Olympics after receiving a playbook which organizers gave to the CDMs last week.

The playbooks that were distributed provided instructions to  athletes, officials and members of the news media on the protocols they must follow at this summer’s rescheduled Games.

The president of the Philippine Football Federation said organizers are planning to put up a bubble where athletes in specific disciplines will training.

And how the training bubbles will play out, will be among the topics of Wednesday’s online discussion.

The playbook contains 32 pages, and does not give much details on how the Olympics can proceed safely amid a pandemic.

“The movement of athletes and officials are limited under the bubble,” added Araneta.

Araneta feels that the Olympics will be logistics nightmare if the restrictions are not properly management.
