Blacklist order on Global FC may hamper PFL stint

A blacklist order on Global FC may prevent the club team from joining the Philippine Football League’s opening matches.

After receiving more than 15 complaints for alleged non-payment of salaries from the players and employees of Global FC last August, the Games and Amusements Board decided to hand down stiff sanctions on the team.

“Global Makati Football Club is hereby ordered blacklisted and barred from applying or renewing its license, transacting with GAB, or otherwise acting as a professional licensee of this board until further orders of the board upon the filing of the required answer under oath,” the GAB said in a written notice.

Players, led by Anton Del Rosario and Milan Nikoli, claimed they were not paid their salaries, adding that this has been going on since 2018.

The PFL has initially denied Global Makati its club license for 90 days, but GAB’s decision may prompt the league to come up with more sanctions.

Last August 4, GAB issued a show cause order by sending a motu proprio complaint against the management of the Global FC to the latter’s last known address in Makati.

The motu proprio complaint states that should the members of the management, such as owners, managers, and other team officials, fail to act on the alleged violation, their licenses will be revoked or suspended.

The GAB’s blacklist order came out following a lack of response from the management and owners of Global FC.

“We are unhappy about what happened and we are acting on the complaint of the players, whose livelihood and careers have been affected. I hope this serves as a deterrent and lesson to others who may do the same,” said GAB chairman Abraham Mitra in a statement.
