UAAP, NCAA in search of new broadcast partner

The University Athletic Association of the Philippines may have a new television broadcast partner by October.

The proposals of the TV networks GMA 7 and TV 5 will soon be tackled by the board of managing directors of the league.

The broadcast partner will be the next one on UAAP's agenda once it is done with the issues surrounding the University of Santo Tomas men's basketball team, the National University women's volleyball squad, and the University of the Philippines men's basketball quintet.

Sources said that ABS-CBN has written the 83-year-old league last month and sought a discontinuation of their broadcast agreement.

Network executives asked the league to end their contract following the station's failure to renew its franchise to operate from Congress.

The network officially went off the air last May 5 and since then, league officials have met with executives from GMA 7 and TV 5 on their offers.

ABS-CBN has also cut off its ties with the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

The NCAA is studying proposals to have either GMA 7 or CNN Philippines come in to take care of its broadcast needs.

NCAA Management Committee chairman Fr. Vic Calvo, OP of Season 96 host Letran confirmed the termination of their deal with ABS CBN.
