Many of the national athletes and coaches who are under the care of the Philippine Sports Commission are continuously receiving their allowances.

PSC Commissioner Ramon Fernandez

Commissioner Ramon Fernandez made this assurance following challenges faced by the government sports agency during the months that the country has gone into a series of quarantine lockdowns.

“Yes, the releases of allowances are continuing,” said Fernandez, a few days after financial assistance for June was given out.

Fernandez added that the allowances may have been reduced, but this is just temporary.

The agency is now dealing with a decrease in its budget after Bayanihan Act I took P596 million and P773 million from the sports agency’s National Sports Development Fund and the General Appropriations Act, respectively.

“Ibabalik din ng PSC iyan during normal times,” added Fernandez.

In the first half of 2020, the agency released more than P351 million to sports of top Tokyo Olympic bets.

So far, the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association received the highest amount of assistance from the agency with over P20.2 Million.

The Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines also got a big chunk, with their allocation of P13 million.

On the other hand, the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines was given P7.8 Million.
