The Mandaleño Cup Inaugural Tournament brought together more than 15 fencing clubs and close to 100 fencers on September 7 at SM Center Shaw, marking a milestone for the sport’s grassroots development.
The event, backed by accredited referees and officials from the Philippine Fencing Association (PFA), was praised for its smooth organization and professional competition.
Participants lauded the tournament as one of the most well-run fencing events in recent years, with many calling for more similar gatherings in the future.
Mandaluyong Fencing Club founder Ariel Montinola expressed gratitude to public and private partners who made the tournament possible. He highlighted that strong collaboration is vital in staging events that will help promote fencing at the community level.
Riding on the success of its debut, the Mandaluyong Fencing Club vowed to host more tournaments and activities to encourage athletes of all ages to take up the sport.
The club said it remains guided by the SULONG spirit—Sportsmanship, Unity, Love of the Sport, Optimism, Nurturing, and Gratitude—as it continues its mission of strengthening the fencing community.
