Davao City and Iloilo were well-represented at the recently concluded Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) sports psychology seminar for national athletes and coaches.
Among the attendees were Mark Wee, vice president of World Archery Philippines (WAP), and Jonathan Josol, a national para-archery coach, both from Davao, as well as Shey Velasquez, a mental coach from Iloilo. The three joined other participants in the three-day sessions held at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
In the official photo, the coaches are seen with PSC Commissioner Fritz Gaston, whose office spearheaded the initiative, alongside Project Director and resource speaker Lito Cinco. PSC Chairman Patrick Gregorio also graced the event, reaffirming his commitment to supporting Filipino athletes.
Earlier this year, the PSC conducted similar sessions focused on sports nutrition. This time, the spotlight shifted to sports psychology under the theme, “Mind and Body in Sync.” The seminar forms part of the PSC’s high-performance program for elite athletes, underscoring Chairman Gregorio’s emphasis on athlete welfare as a top priority.
In addition, a smaller, more interactive workshop is scheduled for August 18. This session aims to bridge the perceived gap between young athletes and their coaches, fostering open dialogue and mutual understanding.
The program was made possible with the support of MILO Philippines, Pocari Sweat, Summit Natural Drinking Water, mWell, BeVera Skin Health Center, and Carmen’s Best. Speakers were drawn from the PSC’s Medical and Scientific Athletes Services (MSAS) Unit.
