First South Lake Chess tournament unreels

Woodpushers in the Southern Tagalog region and nearby province will compete in the 1st South Lake Chess Club dubbed as San Pablo City 2050 Invitational Chess Tournament on January 18, 2020 at the Tableria Masaya Bldg. P. Alcantara St. in San Pablo City, Laguna.

Opening program starts at 7 a.m. followed by Game 1 at 9 a.m.

Christian Peter Aristorenas and Zachary Phleps Bonilla of South Lakes Integrated School will be the favorite in the event with tough challenge coming from youthful John Byron Moreno of Crest Christian School and Frances Lian Chloe Tatlonghari of Canossa College of San Pablo City.

The tournament will be played in a 7-round Swiss System format with the winner taking home P5,000; second place P3,000; third place P2,000; fourth place P1,000; fifth place P800; sixth place P700 and 7th to 10th places, P400 each.

Category prizes for the top three winners in the age group 16 are P2,500, P1,500 and P1,500 while the top 3 survivor in the age group 10 are P1,500, P1,000 and P800.Top senior will bring home P400.

Meanwhile, P40,000 in total cash prizes will be up for grabs in the 1st Calauan Laguna Dalawahan Rapid Chess Tournament on December 30, 2019, Monday at the Kanluran Covered Court near Calauan Town Plaza in Calauan, Laguna.

Round 1 will start exactly at 10 a.m. according to the organizing committee Mikhail Perez Laoagan and Sosonty Caumban in this year-ender tournament which will be supervised by Fide Arbiter Reden Cruz of the Chess Arbiter Union of the Philippines.

“Chess is a lifetime learning. Isulong mo ang tamang tira,” said tournament manager Mikhail Laoagan who placed second during the Black and White Chess Tournament 2019 (Open event) recently at the 3rd floor, Activity Area, Pacific Mall in Lucena City.

The Dalawahan champion will receive P12,000 plus trophy while the second placer will have P8,000 plus trophy. Third up to 8th placers will receive P5,000, P3,000, P2,000, P1,500 and P1,000, respectively.

Category awards are top lady, top senior, top unrated, top Elementary, top High School, top College and top Calauan will get P1,000 each plus medal.

Registration fee is pegged at P1,200 while onsite registration is P1,500.
