Nuestra Senora de Guia Academy of Valenzuela City grabbed the overall championship in the elementary division of the 2018 Milo Little Olympics National Capital Region/South Luzon leg recently in Marikina City.
A regular participant in the premier grassroots multi-sports event in the country backed by Nestle Philippines, maker of Milo Energy Drink and organized by Prof. Robert Milton Calo of McRobertz Sports Academy, Nuestra Senora finished runner-up last in year’s edition, which motivated them to shoot for the overall title this year.
NSDGA top brass Jocelyn Anselmo instructed her sports head to broaden their program in the team and individual sports events in order to achieve their goal.
Their championship was highlighted in boys’ basketball, where promising young cager Mackenzie Joseph Bernabe bagged the Most Outstanding Athlete award and girls’ volleyball, led by MOA girls’ awardee Janessa Blair DC Buhay.
“My advocacy is to have healthy and active students, particularly in sports and I’m committed in supporting my athletes through sports and academics. I’m starting them young for their future,” school owner Anselmo said after receiving the trophy and recognition from the Milo Little Olympics’ hierarchy.
Dethroned champion Concepcion Elementary School was relegated to first runner-up, followed by Diosdado Macapagal High School.
Rounding up the Top 10 are Ateneo de Manila University, Muntinlupa Elementary School, Marist School, Burgos Elementary School, Tunasan Elementary School, Escuela de Sophia of Caloocan and Tomas Morato Elementary School.
In the secondary division, Cinderella team Sta. Elena High School reigned supreme, derailing San Beda University-Rizal’s bid of back-to back overall championship.
Muntinlupa National High School finished second followed by SBU-R. Placing fourth to 10th were Adamson University, Miriam College, University of the Philippines Integrated School, Rizal High School, King’s Montessori School Marist School and Pasay City South High School.
Aside from basketball and volleyball, other events contested were arnis, athletics, badminton, basketball, chess, football, gymnastics, scrabble, swimming, tennis, table tennis and taekwondo.”‹
