AS part of their preparation for the coming Southeast Asian Games, the Philippines is sending  a national squad to the 2017 Singapore SEA 7s tournament that will go on this Wednesday and Thursday.

National head coach Jake Letts said the  Philippine Residents 7s team’s chances are good, considering that they have done well in many international meets.

“Our chances in Southeast Asia is always strong,” said Letts.

Letts talked about the national team’s coming campaign after officials of the Philippine Rugby Football Union inked a partnership agreement with the country’s leading fast food chain Jollibee Foods Corporation last Monday.

Last week, the Philippine Resident 7s outplayed a strong contingent of New Zealand  Navy team in a two-game international friendly held at the International School Manila.

This the same  Philippine team that will be in Singapore for the Holy Week tournament.

They are led by experienced members Gareth Dela Rosa Holgate and Justin Villazor Coveney.

The nationals also got their inspiration when they  bested 10 other countries to win the top prize in the Asian Rugby Sevens Trophy competition in Doha, Qatar recently.

Letts said competition from Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Laos is expected to keep the nationals in good shape.
