The resumption of activities in volleyball is the next concern of the Games and Amusement Board.

GAB chairman Abraham “Baham” Mitra said this before joining meeting with the Interagency Task Force for Infectious Diseases.

The GAB, according to Mitra, will help the IATF in deciding when practices and tournaments in volleyball can happen.

“Nagtatanong na kasi ang volleyball sa amin. Nung una kasi, wala silang binigay na proposal sa amin,” said Mitra during yesterday’s weekly online session of TOPS: Usapang Sports via Zoom.

Mitra met with officials with Philippine Super Liga officials during a meeting of a joint committee on sports that was created by the IATF.

Officials of the Philippine Sports Commission and the Department joined the gathering.

The PSL, through their president Dr. Ian Laurel, is making an appeal, and is hoping to get clearance for member teams to be able to return to practice.

The IATF’s meeting comes a week after clubs from both the Philippine Basketball Association and the Philippine Football League were given the green light to return to training.

And this will be done under strict health protocols that were passed with assistance from the GAB.

“The protocols of in professional football and professional basketball have been approved. And we’re happy sa pagpayag sa mga pag-practice. Pero hindi pa rin maglalaro,” said Mitra.

The GAB is also trying to find out the status of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, which has not them sent a proposal.

Aside from volleyball, the GAB is also seeking the nod for the staging of closed-door boxing events.

Mitra earlier revealed that the GAB is pushing to have pro boxing done without the presence of spectators.

And this is as part of efforts to reduce, if not eliminate, the possible spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
