Joshua Mina provided the needed points that fueled the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals to a 25-22, 25-20, 18-25, 25-19 beating of the San Beda Red Lions yesterday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
The win brought the Generals closer to a seat in the Final Four of the 95th National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s volleyball tournament.
Making 24 points, Mina had 21 attacks, two blocks and a service ace during their 90-minute affair with the Red Spikers.
The Generals kept their win-loss record spotless after six games.
“Pinaghahandaan naman namin every game ng mabuti kasi ayoko ng mapabayaan,” said EAC coach Rod Palmero.
EAC will try to remain unbeaten, when it clashes with San Sebastian College Stags on Thursday.
The Red Spikers’ back-to-back setbacks put them in fifth at 3-3.
Sophomores Aeron Daduya and Danrich Melad contributed 17 and 14, respectively, for the Generals.
In women’s action, San Beda took solo fourth with a 25-15, 25-16, 27-25 conquest of the EAC Lady Generals.
Skipper Cesca Racraquin had 22 points for the Lady Red Spikers, who picked up their fourth triumph in six matches and stayed in the race for the last semis berth
Nieza Viray added 13 points, including the match-clinching kill that closed out the extended third frame, while Kim Manzano had two blocks to finish with seven points for the Lady Red Spikers.
The Mendiola-based squad also kept within reach of University of Perpetual Help System Dalta and defending champion Arellano University, which are tied in second at 5-1.
