The Arellano University Lady Chiefs overcame a shaky start and pounced on the Jose Rizal University Lady Bombers’ errors in the third set to earn a 25-19, 25-16, 25-17 romp yesterday at the FilOil-Flying V Sports Center in San Juan.

Regina Arocha and Carla Donato once again provided the points that helped push the Lady Chiefs to their third straight triumph in the women’s division of the 95th National Collegiate Athletic Association women’s volleyball tournament.

The Lady Chiefs still took the first set despite encountering trouble at the frontline with the Lady Bombers’ blocks.

The Lady Bombers had a chance to overtake the Lady Chiefs in the third after Princess Bello committed a service error at 7-all.

But a series of miscues from the Lady Bombers allowed the Lady Chiefs to nurse a three-point edge, 12-9.

After that, Nicole Sasuman scored all her three points during a 5-1 run that handed Arellano an 18-12 edge.

“Our first set was shaky. And even though we won the game, we still have to work things out in practice,” said Lady Chiefs’ coach Roberto Javier.

Earlier, the Chiefs banked on balanced offensive effort to claim a 25-19, 25-23, 22-25, 25-16 victory over the JRU Heavy Bombers in the men’s division.

Jesrael Liberato, Christain Dela Paz and Christian Segovia showed the way for the Chiefs in their four-set conquest, which lasted for an hour and a half.

The Chiefs kept their record intact at 3-0 and they are now at joint first place with also-unscathed Perpetual.

Liberato came through with 16 points off 12 attacks and four blocks.

Dela Paz and Segovia added14 and 12 markers, respectively.

In the junior side, the Arellano Junior Chiefs got 21 points from Rwemwel Taguibolos in their 25-10, 25-21, 25-18 edging of the JRU Light Bombers.
