Bullpups reclaim high school volleyball crown

National University made short work of Far Eastern University-Diliman, 25-21, 25-22, 25-21, to reclaim the boys’ championship of the UAAP Season 81 high school volleyball tournament Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

The Bullpups won the best-of-three series, 2-0, for their third title in the last four years.

Mac Arvin Bandola was again the force in defending the net, accounting for nine of NU’s 13 blocks.

Bandola finished with 19 points, while Jomar Ocampo had three blocks for a 13-point outing in his final game for the Bullpups.

Jose Magdalino Javelona had 14 points, 12 receptions and nine digs, while Jomel Codilla and Ranz Cajolo each scored 10 markers for the Baby Tamaraws, who ended up as runners-up for the second straight year.

Javelona earlier received the season MVP and 1st Best Outside Spiker awards prior to Game 2.

Other individual awardees were University of Santo Tomas’ Rey Miguel de Vega (2nd Best Outside Spiker and Best Server), Lorenz Señoron (Best Opposite Spiker) and Tracy Prudenciado (Best Libero), Adamson University’s Nathaniel del Pilar (1st Best Middle Blocker), NU’s Ocampo (2nd Best Middle Blocker) and Diogenes Poquita (Best Setter).
