Imus, Cavite—Philippine national team triathletes Mark Hosana and Claire Adorna clinched the fastest male and female honors at the 2nd Sun Life Aquathlon held at the Vermosa Sports Hub on Oct. 14.
The two elite triathletes, competing in the 25-29 age group, finished the standard distance 500-meter swim and the 5-km run in under 30 minutes, with the fleet-footed Hosana clocking in at 26 minutes and 26 seconds.
SEA Games gold medalist Adorna breasted the tape in 29 minutes flat.
Other noteworthy Sun Life Aquathlon standard distance champions from over 400 participants were two 15-year-olds with autism, Angie Powell and Peggy Geiser, who won 1st and 3rd place, respectively.
Sun Life GoWell ambassador Bubbles Paraiso topped 20 other women in her 30-34 age group to win 1st place, while 2017 Ironman Kona finisher Celma Hitalia proved the prowess of women above 50. Age was no issue for Chicho Mantaring, who came in 1st place in the 60 and above category, besting more than 30 males younger than him.
The 2nd Sun Life Aquathlon also capped a year-long aquathlon series, which included the Vermosa Aquathlon, Animo Aquathlon, Island Cove Aquathlon, and the Aquaman. The overall 2018 aquathlon series champions were awarded as well post-race following a tally of the points they accumulated from all five races.
