F2 logistics wants volley grand slam

F2 Logistics, recent winner of the Pilipinas Super Liga Invitational Conference after beating rival Petron in the finals, is eyeing a new goal.

“It is a dream  for us  to win a Grand Slam in the future. Definitely, it will be tough to achieve this, but  one can always dream big. For the past three years since we joined the PSL, we have won three titles already, the All-Filipino in 2016, the Grand Prix in 2017, and this year’s Invitational. I believe  that the key to our success is the fact that we have maintained our core group of players  with only minor changes in our line-up,” said F2 Logistics President Efren Uy.

He described the emerging rivalry between his team and Petron as something good for the PSL.

“In the four finals we have played against one another, we are tied at two all, so the Grand Prix this October will break this tie. Both teams are very competitive with equal skills and with national players on both sides,” added Uy, who is lending six of his players to the national team bound for the Asian Games in Indonesia.

A big but pleasant surprise for the team was the return from injury of Ara Galang, who even emerged as the MVP.

“I am very happy for Ara, there was a time she  already wanted to quit because  she  was  injured for a long time, but we kept our faith with her and maintained her on the team,” said Uy.

What a lot of people are not aware of was that when Game 1 of the finals was played, it was also  the wake of Uy’s mother, 85-year-old Betty Uy, also a volleyball fan together with the rest of the family.

“We decided to watch the live streaming  of the game that night right there at the wake, I am sure my mother was watching too. That is why we dedicate  that championship to her,” said Uy.

Looking back at his team’s past  championships, Uy said each one is different.

“The very first one  was sweet because it was the first title for us. The second time, we came back from a 0-9 deficit in the fourth set  and still won in the end. This last title, it felt good  because we lost to Petron in the first round, but it was also sad because of the timing that my mother passed away.”

One thing for sure, that was not the last championship for F2 Logistics.

“We are in the sport for the long haul,” Uy concluded.
