DLSU, Ateneo chase Lady Maroons

DEFENDING champion De La Salle and Ateneo try to keep within reach of undefeated University of the Philippines Lady Marrons as the two fierce rivals play winless foes today in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

The Lady Spikers go for a back-to-back win in their 4 p.m. clash with Adamson University, while the Lady Eagles shoot for a third straight win against University of the East at 2 p.m.

De La Salle and Ateneo hold identical 3-1 records along with idle National University in second to fourth places.

The energetic Lady Maroons are now the remaining undefeated team in the season, winning four straight games.

The Lady Spikers swept the erstwhile unbeaten Lady Bulldogs, 29-27, 25-16, 25-21, last Sunday. It was one big bounce back victory for De La Salle, which last week lost to UP in straight sets.

The Lady Spikers proved that they are not reliant on Kim Dy and Majoy Baron, as Tin Tiamzon and Aduke Ogunsanya responded well the last time out, which will be the main concern for the Lady Falcons.

The Lady Eagles hope to pull this one off against the vastly-improved Lady Warriors before finishing the first round with highly-anticipated match-ups against the Lady Maroons on Sunday and the Lady Spikers in a Finals rematch on March 4.

Skipper Jia Morado, responsible for making the Lady Eagles as the league-leader in spikes and setting, will lead the way once again.

Despite sporting a 0-4 card, the Lady Warriors have been giving teams headaches, although the Recto-based spikers need to be consistent if they wanted to capture that elusive first win.

Struggling men’s squads De La Salle (1-3) and Adamson University (0-4), meanwhile, collide in the featured 10 a.m. match, right after titleholder Ateneo (4-0) and winless UE (0-4) take on the floor at 8 a.m.
