ONE Championship and Global Citizen successfully unleashed the One World: Together at Home concert on 19 April, where The Home Of Martial Arts was an official broadcaster of the online music festival.
The series of musical performances featured icons like Lady Gaga, John Legend, Alicia Keys, and many more, and it raised US$127.9 million, which will go directly to the World Health Organization COVID-19 response fund.
Several key figures in ONE Championship also streamed live home workouts and answered queries from fans about health and fitness.
Team Lakay star Danny “The King” Kingad was part of the initiative – and he is ecstatic with the outcome.
“I’m really happy with the outcome of the concert because that’s big money, it will help frontliners all over the world in their battle against COVID-19,” Kingad said.
“The King” believes the two organizations showed what can be done through collaboration.
“If ONE and Global Citizen can come up with these charity events, I believe it’s a start for the organizations to follow suit and host other charity drives to collect more money, which can bolster the campaign against this pandemic.”
Doing his own charity work along with Team Lakay in Benguet, Kingad believes that if he can somehow help and provide assistance to those who are in need, bigger organizations can do more as well.
For Kingad, the partnership between ONE and Global Citizen have already planted the blueprint that the rest of the world could follow.
“If they were able to raise 127 million US Dollars, for sure it will be a big help. I just hope other groups follow suit, it does not have to be that big, it’s all about the willingness to help out,” Kingad said.
“A lot of people need help today. The government can’t shoulder it alone so whether it be big or small, helping out goes a long way.”
Kingad is aware that the battle against COVID-19 still has a long way to go, but he believes that if everyone helps each other, this battle can be won.
“This is probably the hardest fight we’ll ever face, but as long as we’re helping out each other, I believe that we will overcome this,” Kingad said.
“I also think that a lot of people will be even more motivated to help out, especially with ONE and Global Citizen making headlines with their charity drive.”
