Why Pacio is perfect athlete to showcase ONE to the world

ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio did not always look like a top-class martial artist.

At age 12, he struggled with his weight as he lacked the discipline and drive after his father relocated to Israel for work.

That was the time when he was introduced to wushu – a discipline which changed his life for the better. The change was evident as he transformed from an overweight kid into a real-life superhero in The Home Of Martial Arts.

“Martial arts has given me a different kind of joy and hope as I grew up,” Pacio said.

“It also helped me develop different traits and values that will lead you to success and will make you a better person. [That is] something I want to share to everyone, especially to the youth."

A decade after being introduced to wushu, Pacio is now set to headline ONE Championship’s first event of 2019 when he takes on Yosuke Saruta at ONE: ETERNAL GLORY on 19 January.

For someone who had to grow up with so much adversity, Pacio has now developed into a World Champion who truly embodies the virtues that ONE requires of its martial artists.

Now given a much larger platform, "The Passion" vows to use that to inspire the millions of people who follow the world’s largest martial arts organization in picking up the values of Asian martial arts, which is built on integrity, humility, honor, respect, courage, discipline, and compassion.

“In our position, as global athletes, we have a lot of influence. I want to be a compassionate athlete,” Pacio explained.

“I want to show the people that I care beyond the ring or the cage, and discipline can lead you to success.”
