PHILTA recreational workshop resumes

The Philippine Tennis Association imparts the importance of tennis in the grassroots level when the 3rd PHILTA Online Recreational Coaches Workshop resumes this weekend via zoom.

Initial topics included the 10-Step Rally for beginners as discussed by secretary general Martin Misa and the modified tennis equipment with emphasis on the red ball by ITF Junior Tennis Initiative coordinator Gerhard Mamawal.

The nationwide recreational tennis program is an integral part of PHILTA’s Calender since last year and will be expounded by national head coach Chris Cuarto, who will also touch on the PHILTA Community Tennis Festival for the intermediate level.

The modified equipment and the planning of an effective tennis lesson for beginners with fun games will discussed by national coach Davis Alano, while CTW-Milo director Jovy Mamawal will share notes to organize grassroots tennis activities.

PHILTA president Atty. Antonio Cablitas emphasized the importance of these online tennis activities which includes weekly webinars and interactive lessons during the pandemic.

“Despite the difficult times, we have been conducting online activities for the purpose of physical fitness and upliftment of tennis mentors specially for DepEd teachers in the provinces,” said Cablitas.

The PHILTA had been organizing junior tennis events in the Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao regions; the National Student Championships; updgraded coaching seminars; and was set to implement its Open tournaments when the pandemic put on hold all activities.
