The playbook being prepared by the Philippine Sports Commission on the future of the 19 Filipino athletes in the Tokyo Olympics can be used for the next two decades or four Olympiads.

“Ganu’n ang Olimpiada, it’s a long arduous road of excellence and sacrifices, not only for the athletes, but also for the government,” said PSC chairman William Ramirez.

Ramirez said the PSC is set to meet with officials of the Philippine Olympic Committee, the national sports associations and partners in the private sector on the master plan that they are developing in an effort to sustain the momentum gained during the Tokyo Olympics.

Initially, the government sports agency plans to map out the participation of the 19 athletes in competitions that will help them qualify for the Paris Olympics.

And it’s up to the next administration to carry out the contents of the playbook.

“Sa August, pahinga muna. Sa September, we can plan out the competition and training schedules,” added Ramirez.

The playbook that the PSC has in mind is  based on the experiences of the19 athletes, how they prepared and participated in their respective events in the quadrennial meet.

Many of the athletes were first timers in joining Olympic events and they  found it difficult to make podium finishes.

But they need to be given numerous chances to be able to join future Olympic events.

Weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz led the Philippine campaign as she finally brought  home the country’s first ever Olympic gold  medal in 97 years.
