Filipino gymnastics’ phenom Carlos Yulo, whose world ranking in the floor exercises dropped to no. 3 last month, will be able to train again in Japan after the Tokyo Olympics.

The 21-year-old Yulo got this assurance following talks between between Gymnastics Association of the Philippines president Cynthia Carrion and FIG president Morinari Watanabe.

This will give Yulo a chance to get ready for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The opportunity was granted Yulo two weeks before he seeks action  at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre in Japan for the Olympics.

“He can stay in Japan for another four years. I wrote a letter to Mr. Watanabe if he can continue training in Japan,” said Carrion.

The 4’9” Yulo is in the thick of preparations for the Olympics and has been in Tokyo for more than four years already.

He used to be the no. 1 in the world rankings of the men’s artistic gymnastics floor exercises.

But Yulo did not participate in a Doha tournament last month, where Israeli Artem Dologpyat and Spain’s Rayderley Zapata took a 1-2 finish for the gold and the silver medal, respectively.

Dologpyat took over the no. 1 spot with 90 points, while Zapata is behind with  70.

Yulo slipped to third with 70, still ahead of Russian Kirill Prokopev, who is fourth with 64.
