Aranas: POC must look into SEAG budget report

A financial report is due to be submitted by the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee on Oct. 10 to the Philippine Olympic Committee.

And the POC needs to look into this since it took the organizers 10 months to prepare their report, according to archery chief Clint Aranas, who is a member of the POC Executive Board.

“This is part of a tripartite agreement that the PHISGOC had with the POC and the Philippine Sports Commission before the start of the Southeast Asian Games,” said Aranas, who added that the report is long overdue.

Aranas, who heads World Archery Philippines, believes that questions need to be continuously raised on the financial activities that were done by organizers of the Games.

He said the POC needs to hold those who were involved in the SEAG’s finances and operations must be responsible and held accountable in the event that questions are raised.

Aranas is seeking the presidency of the Philippine Olympic Committee in the coming elections on November 27.

The report is supposed to give details on the cash position and expenses of the organizers of the 2019 Southeast Games.

In September last year, the POC was tasked to monitor the activities of the PHISGOC, the technical aspect of the Games, oversee its expeditures and marketing activities.

In return, the PHISGOC was supposed to submit a report of its financial activities.

The games had an allotted budget of P6 billion that helped organizers tackle the many obligations during the Games held from Nov. 30 to Dec. 10.

Meantime, POC chief Abraham Tolentino acknowledged that there is a delay in the submission of a financial statement from the PHISGOC.

Tolentino assured that a proper accounting of the Games’ cash flow will be out in due time.
