Eala makes Aussie quarterfinals

World no. 9 Alexandra Eala continued her winning ways as she reached the quarterfinals of the 2020 AGL Loy Yang Traralgon Junior International Tennis Tournament in Victoria, Australia.

The 14-year-old Eala needed to three sets to shake off Russian netter Elina Avanesyan, 5-7, 7-5, 6-1, to barge into the round of eight.

Eala will next face another Russian Polina Kudermetova.

The right-handed Kudermetova, who is ranked seventh, reached the quarterfinals with her 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, conquest of Italian Liza Pigato.

Coached by Daniel Gomez of the Rafa Nadal Academy, Eala earlier pulled off a 6-1, 6-2 win over Hungarian netter Amarisa Toth in the first round, before disposing of China’s Na Dong, 6-2, 6-1, in the second.

Top seed Elsa Jacquemont prevailed over Savannah Broadus of the United States, 6-1, 6-4.

Jacquemont will now go after Spain’s Ane del Olmo, who slipped past Mia Repac of Australia, 7-5, 6-3.

Celle Mohir of France upset second seed Robin Montgomery of the USA 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, to also advance to the quarterfinals.
