Eala unseeded at French Open

Filipina tennis sensation Alexandra Eala will be among the unseeded players and direct entries entered at the 2025 French Open.

The 19-year-old Eala, who turns 20 next week, will once again join superstars Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula and Jasmine Paolini in the tournament.

Defending champion Iga Swiatek, whom Eala beat in the Miami Open, is no longer the no. 2 player, having been dethroned by Gauff.

Swiatek is seeking another crown after claiming her fourth Roland Garros title last year.

Joining Eala as unseeded entries are Magda Linette, Ashlyn Krueger, Ons Jabeur, Elina Avanesyan, Rebecca Sramkova, Anastasia Potapova, Olga Danilovic, Katie Boulter, Xinyu Wang and Belinda Bencic.

Eala, in an interview witb Newsweek, said this is a dream come true for her—to play, compete and rub elboys with the greatest tennis players in the world

“This is the, like, the life on tour, the life of a tennis player, the life that I’ve dreamed of ever since I was little. So, to be able to just live it and to be surrounded by all of these great players and great people who’ve achieved so many things…I feel so grateful and so blessed,” said Eala.

This year’s French Open, which will be staged from May 25 to June 8 on the clay courts of Stade Roland Garros, will be the 124th edition of the Paris Grand Slam.

The French Open women’s singles main draw comprises of 128 players, including 104 direct entrants, eight wildcards and 16 qualifiers.

Also coming in as direct entries like Eala are McCartney Kessler, Danielle Collins, Lulu Sun, Dayana Yastremska, Emma Raducanu, Marketa Vondrousova, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Victoria Azarenka and Veronika Kudermetova.

Six of the eight wildcards have been awarded to French players, namely Lois Boisson, Elsa Jacquemot, Leolia Jeanjean, Chloe Paquet, Diane Parry and Tiantsoa Rajaonah.

There are three former Roland Garros champions who will compete — Swiatek (2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024), Barbora Krejcikova (2021) and Jelena Ostapenko (2017).
