Italian pair Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini fought off American superstar Coco Gauff and Filipina sensation Alexandra Eala, 7-5, 3-6, 10-7, in their women’s doubles quarterfinal clash on Wednesday evening.
When it ended after 96n minutes, Errani and Paoini found themselves facing Russian duo Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider at the semifinals of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia’s Tennis Tournament, also known as the 2025 Italian Open.
Errani scored the final point after she forced Eala to an error, with the Filipina netter sending her crosscourt return to the net, at the Foro Italica courts.
With the loss, Eala earned a share of the 87,140 euro prize money with Gauff, which is roughly around P5.446-million, to go with 390 points.
Earlier, Gauff scored her second women’s singles win over Andreeva, 6-4, 7-6(7-5) to reach the semis.
Two weeks ago, Gauff had won over Andreeva at the Madrid Open, 7-5, 6-1.
Eala and Gauff taking early control in the first set, rallying from a 0-1 deficit to a 5-3 lead.
But Errani and Paolini rallied back to gain control and take the first set, 7-5.
Eala and Gauff took charge to take the second set, 6-3, before Errani and Paolini pounced on errors at the net to win the contest.
Andreeva and Shnaider arranged a clash with Errani and Paolini off their 6-2, 4-6, 11-9 win over Gabriella Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe.
