The Philippine men’s beach handball team clinched the gold medal, while the women’s squad brought home the bronze at the 2025 Southeast Asian Beach Handball Championships in Suphanburi, Thailand.
The men’s team delivered a stunning performance, defeating powerhouse Vietnam, 2-1, in a thrilling match to secure its third consecutive victory and dominate the five-nation competition, which followed a championship-round format.
Before their win over Vietnam, the Filipinos bested Singapore, 2-0, and host Thailand, 2-1. They are set to face Indonesia in a no-bearing game later today.
This marks a historic achievement for the Philippines, as it is the first-ever gold medal won in the Southeast Asian men’s beach handball tournament, surpassing their previous bronze finishes in 2017 and 2023.On the other hand, the Philippine women’s beach handball team earned the bronze medal after a 2-0 victory against Singapore. Despite losses to Thailand (0-2) and Vietnam (0-2), their podium finish adds another milestone for Philippine handball.
The gold-bronze finish bolsters the confidence of the Filipino handballers as they prepare for the Asian Beach Handball Championships, scheduled from May 1 to 10 in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.
This event also serves as a qualifier for the World Championships.
However, beach handball is currently not included in the official sports program of the 2025 SEA Games, with only indoor handball events being featured.
