Chua makes PH flag fly at Winter U Games

TORINO, Italy—Amidst the stunning backdrop of Torino, Skye Chua proudly represented the Philippines as the country’s lone athlete at the 2025 Winter University Games.

Competing in the Ladies’ Short Program, Chua—a University of the Philippines student and national figure skating team member—delivered a heartfelt and artistic performance, showcasing her passion and dedication to the sport. With a Total Segment Score of 26.69, she placed 32nd, narrowly missing the cut for the Free Skate. Despite this, Chua left an indelible mark, serving as a beacon of Philippine pride on the global stage.

“It was a good fight, and she dazzled with her strong performance skills. Thank you for a great skate and a wonderful experience at the Games, Skye.”

The Filipino community rallied behind her, with Consul General Elmer G. Cato commending her as a symbol of the Philippines’ emerging talent in winter sports.

This milestone continues Chua’s inspiring journey in figure skating. From earning a podium finish at the Southeast Asian Figure Skating Competition to competing at the world’s largest winter multi-sport event for student-athletes, Chua has proven herself as a rising star in the sport.

She was joined in Torino by her parents, Smith and Cherrie Chua; FESSAP (Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines) Chairman for Winter Sports, Dodjie Fabian; coach Sharon Fabian; two-time Winter University Games athlete and media liaison, Misha Fabian; FESSAP Secretary General Graham Lim; and official Christian Tan.
