PH jr soft netters finish in Top 4

Kunming, China—The Philippine Junior team bowed to Hong Kong China, 0-2, in the battle for third place at the close of the recent 2019 Colorful Yunnan Belt And Road Initiative Kunming International Tennis Tournament here at the Gloria Hotspring Resort Tennis Center in Kunming, China.

Exequiel Jucutan and Jufe-ann, Cocoy dropped hard-fought matches to their more experienced Hong Kong rivals for a respectable 4th-place finish in a field of eleven nations.

Jucutan and Cocoy were joined by Jude Hidalgo and Minette Bentillo in the Kunming netfest witnessed by Philippine Tennis Association president Atty. Antonio Cablitas.

The PH Junior squad earlier lost to eventual champion Anning China, 0-2, in the crossover semifinal encounter.

Their senior counterparts dropped out of the premier Mixed Team Event despite defeating Mongolia, 3-2, during the group round-robin stage.

A triple tie ensued with Thailand, Sri Lanka and the Philippines but a lower quotient prevented the Filipinos from advancing to the Top 4.

Hong Kong China squeaked past Malaysia, 3-2, to bag the Mixed Team Event of the annual Colorful Yunnan Belt And Road Initiative tournament, sanctioned by the China Tennis Association.
