Suyamin leads PH chess team to Thailand

Gentri chess team will compete in the Pattaya Chess Club Open 2019 (Youth division) set October 19 to 24 in Pattaya, Thailand.

The team will be led by nine-year-old Bonjoure Fille Suyamin, a grade 4 pupil of Del Rosario Christian Institute in General Trias City, Cavite.

“I hope to do well in the upcoming Pattaya Chess Club Open 2019 (Youth division),” said Fille, a consistent honor student and achiever since kinder.

Suyamin, playing under the guidance of Arnel Beltran Del Rosario, chairman/president of Del Rosario Christian Institute Foundation, Inc., three silver medals (standard, rapid and blitz) in the girls under-10 division of the 20th Asean Age Group Chess Championships in Mandalay City, Myanmar last June.

She is also won gold medal during the First Thailand Chess Festival at the Le Bali Resort and Spa in Pattaya, Thailand last July.

Suyamin is fresh from winning the gold medal in the 2019 General Trias City chess meet last September 24 to advance to the provincial meet.

Other members of the young Philippine chess squad headed by coach Ederwin Estavillo are seven-year-old Jeanne Marie Arcenue (grade 2, Academy of St. John); eight-year-old Yanie Ayesha Estavillo (grade 3, John Isabel Learning Center); 10-year-old Relghie Columna (grade 6, John Isabel Learning Center); 12-year-old Geraldine Mae Camarines (grade 7, Bethel Academy) and 12-year-old Adrian Klein Contamayor (grade 7, Maria Cristina Brando school).

Suyamin carried the good fight for young woodpushers who won four gold and two silver medals at the First Thailand Pattaya Youth Chess Championship 2018 held at the Bay Beach Resort Pattaya, Banglamung, Chin Buried in Pattaya, Thailand.

Suyamin won the gold in the girls under-10 division while Clark Jemuel Cabatian, Relghie and Gio Troy Ventura took the gold in the boys’ Under-8, Under-10 and Under-12 division, respectively.

Jirah Floravie Cutiyog and Geraldine Mae chipped inn silver medals in the girls under-10 and under-12.

“We expect these young and talented chess players from General Trias City, Cavite to perform well as usual and bring honor to the country,” said chess godfather and supporter of the youth Luis “Jon-Jon” Ferrer IV who is also Cavite 6th District Representative.
