PSC to launch Women & Girls in Sports in Zambales

The Philippine Sports Commission is holding the tenth edition of the Women and Girls in Sports program in the municipality of Castillejos, Zambales on Sept. 19 to 22.

“This will be the final leg of the games for this year, in accordance with the country’s Gender and Development (GAD) Plan. We have chosen to partner with the local government of Castillejos for this event,” said PSC Commissioner Celia Kiram, also oversight officer of the program.

Over 500 women and children from the municipality are expected to participate in the four-day event, in coordination with Castillejos City Mayor Eleanor De Jesus Dominguez and Family & Youth Head Councilor Maria Cecillia Felarca-Rafan.

Project Head Judith Laygo added that a coordination meeting is set with the Mayor Dominguez as well as sports officials from the municipality next week.

Moreover, Kiram relayed that indigenous peoples of the municipality are also invited to join and participate in the seven sports such as;  women’s basketball, women’s volleyball, arm wrestling, tug-of-war, sack race, kadang-kadang sa kahoy and kadang-kadang sa bunot in the event.
