The San Beda University Red Sea Lions earned their 17th straight title in the 95th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) swimming competition.
San Beda finished with 1,022.5 points. College of St. Benilde is far second with 587 points followed by Emilio Aguinaldo College with 281 points.
Led by Chloe Medina with three gold medals in the women’s division, SBU snared four of the five gold medals at stake on day two in the women’s division.
John Henry Gurango showed the way as San Beda got three of the five gold medals in the men’s division.
Medina claimed her third individual gold after taking first place in the 200m backstroke event in record breaking fashion. She broke the old mark of 2:31.92 with her new best time of 2:30.35.
Gwen Brynne Prejul, who took a silver medal in the 100-meter freestyle on Day 1, earned her first individual gold for San Beda in the 100m butterfly event, along with Sophia Bulanhagui in the 400m individual medley event.
The foursome of Helena Teope, Cherryline Hortelano, Gwyneth Cawaling and Prejula then teamed up to bag another gold for SBU in the 4x100m freestyle relay event.
Mary Joy Bayaga of the College of St. Benilde kept SBU from claiming a sweep in the women’s division by bagging the gold in the 50m breaststroke event in 35.53 seconds.
In the men’s side, Gurango added another gold to his personal collection when he topped the 100m butterfly event in 59.23 seconds.
Jason Villaruz dominated the 400m IM in 4:58.87 and Fritz Rodriguez finished first in the 50m breaststroke (30.98 seconds) for San Beda.
Aziz Jan Pukunum got a gold for CSB in the 200m backstroke event with a gold medal time of 2:16.93.
