The five-day Bowling World Cup national finals kicks off today at Coronado Lanes with 80 men and 43 ladies targeting the title and slots in the international event set in Palembang, Indonesia on Nov. 16-24, this year.
The men’s bidders led by four-time World Cup champion Paeng Nepomuceno and highest center final scorer Kenneth Chua, roll 12 games starting at 10 o’clock this morning, while the lady finalists, headed by 2017 BWC international winner Krizziah Tabora and seasoned campaigner Liza del Rosario, play 10 games tomorrow also at 10 a.m.
Based on total pinfalls, the top 34 men and top 34 ladies will advance to the second day scheduled at Superbowl on Sept. 10 (for men) and Sept. 11 (for ladies).
With their scores carried over, the 34 ladies will roll 10 more games and the 34 men 12 more with lane changes after each game. Total pinfalls will determine the top 8 ladies and men who will bowl another 8 games to determine the top 4 who will advance to the semifinal and final rounds.
All matches in the quarterfinal and semifinal will be best 2 of 3 and played from scratch. In the quarters, the top finisher will meet No. 4 while the second and third placers will clash, with the winners advancing to the finals.
The men’s and ladies’ champions will represent the Philippines in the Palembang international finals.
Other favorites for the top awards are Merwin Tan and Alexis Sy, who competed in last year’s international event at Sam’s Town in Las Vegas; Lara Posadas Wong, Mades Arles, Paulo Valdez, RJ Bautista, Raoul Miranda and Benshir Layosa.
