Work on the main venues of the 30th Southeast Asian Games are expected to be finished by Aug. 31.

That’s because the contractors tasked to get the many venues up and ready were given an internal deadline by the Bases Conversion Development Authority before the first week of November.

“It’s the BCDA’s deadline on all the physical structures,” said Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee executive director Tom Carrasco following a media conference yesterday at the Sofitel Hotel.

By then, this will make all the venues ready with three months to go before the multi-sport event is held from Nov. 30 to December 11.

There are a total of 530 events across 56 sports that are calendared.

PHISGOC president and Chief Operating Officer Ramon Suzara said most of the venues that will be used have been built, with some temporary ones still to be addressed.

“We are now in the final stretch of physical and operational preparations,” said Suzara.

There will be 44 competition venues spread around Metro Manila, Pampanga, Zambales and La Union in the north and in Batangas, Laguna and Cavite in the south.

Organizers said construction work of the main stadiums for swimming and athletics at the New Clark City Sports Complex in Pampanga are still going on.

With the oval and pool ready for use, the stadiums are expected to be in full use by the end of August.
