PH kids join 1st Thai Chess tilt in Pattaya

The Philippines is set to compete in the 1st Thailand Chess Festival at the Le Bali Resort and Spa, Pattaya, Thailand. The Philippine team will see action from July 7 to 18 in Pattaya. 

The team is led by Bonjoure Fille Suyamin, a grade 4 pupil of Del Rosario Christian Institute in General Trias City, Cavite, who is fresh from winning three silver medals (Standard, Rapid and Blitz) in the girls under 10 division of the 9-day 20th ASEAN Age Group Chess Championships 2019 in Mandalay City, Myanmar last June 18.

“ I hope to do well in the upcoming 1st Thailand Chess Festival in Pattaya, Thailand,” said nine-year-old Fille, a consistent Honor Student and achievers since kinder 1 up to present.

Arnel Beltran Del Rosario, chairman/ president of Del Rosario Christian Institute Foundation Inc., one of the supporter of Bonjoure Fille said “ Wishing you all the best in your future endeavors.”

Other members of the young PH chess squad are Yanie Ayesha Estavillo (U8), Noreen Sciecky Atienza (U8), Jirah Floravie Cutiyog (U10), John Martin Firmalino (U12), Geraldine Mae Camarines (U12), Relghie Columna (U12), Janmyl Dilan Tisado (U14), Josh Edmar Castro (U14), Paolo Estavillo (U16),  Jireh Dan Jaime Cutiyog (U16) and Stephen Von Estavillo (U18).

It shall be recalled that Fille carried the good fight for Young PH wood pushers who won four (4) gold medals and two (2) silver medals at the 1st Thailand Pattaya Youth Chess Championship 2018 held at the Bay Beach Resort Pattaya, Banglamung, Chin Buried in Pattaya, Thailand last October 24.

Fille won the gold in the girls under 10 division while Clark Jemuel Cabatian, Relghie and Gio Troy Ventura took the gold in the boys’ Under-8, Under-10 and Under-12 division, respectively.

 Jirah Floravie and Geraldine Mae chipped inn silver medals in the girls under 10 and under 12.

“We expect these young and talented chess players from General Trias City, Cavite to perform well as usual and bring honor to the country,” said supporter of the youth and Chess God Father Luis “Jon Jon” Ferrer IV. 

The Filipinos will go against squads from Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Brunei according to PH chess coach Ederwin Estavillo, who is also the president of the General Trias City Chess Club.
