A group of video gaming enthusiasts is looking forward to expand their reach at the grassroots level.
This is what the Esports World Federation will try to do following interests coming from three school leagues in putting up a series of tournaments starting next week.
The Federation of School Sports Associations of the Philippines, the Philippine Collegiate Champions League and the Philippine Inter Schools, Colleges and Universities Athletic Association will join the ESWF in its efforts to establish a series of tournaments in different platforms starting next week.
“We are fortunate to collaborate with the special people who are willing to work with us on this,” said ESWF spokesman Rains David during a launch at the SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.
Competitions in Mobile Legends, Arena of Valor and DOTA 2–played in mobile, personal computer and console platforms, are set to start next week and will go on till June.
The tournaments were inspired with the inclusion of esports in thae 2018 Asian Games last year and the 30th Southeast Asian Games this year.
So far, the PCCL is set to host five legs in Luzon, the National Capital Region, Cebu, Davao and Cagayan de Oro.
The PISCUAA will have four legs, which will be hosted by government schools.
ESWF president Arniel Gutierrez said they are organizing the tournaments under the umbrella of the Global Association of International Sports Federations.
And Timezone Philippines, an international chain of arcade centers, has agreed to host most of their tournaments.
The “Bayan Ko vs Bayan Mo” tournament which will pit different participating cities against each other, is also in the works.
Organizers said the tournament will serve as a test event before they hold collegiate level events.
