Azkals’ coach Goran: More changes coming

MORE changes are expected to take place in the coming games of the Philippine Azkals national men’s football team.

Azkals’ coach Sven Goran Eriksson said this after they got past Singapore, 1-0, in the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup group stage on Tuesday night at the Panaad Park and Football Stadium in Bacolod City.

The 70-year-old Swedish coach bared that more surprises are in store for the team once they figure out their starting lineup change against Timor Leste on Saturday.

For now, Eriksson and and the rest of the Azkals’ staff are evaluating the players and the fitness level of the team.

“My expectations from my time here is to play the ball a little bit better than today. There were a lot of long balls out there,” said Eriksson.

The Azkals played without key players the last time around.

They missed Luke Woodland, who was rushed to the hospital after a hard tackle, and Alvaro Silva was unavailable for the game.

The Azkals are now in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, looking to climb to the top of the table with a win over Timor Leste in their 8 p.m. encounter.

“I have much more knowledge today than I had one week ago. I’ve been working to see them play today,” added Eriksson.

The last time the Azkals won over the Lions was in 2012 during a FIFA international friendly in Cebu.
