Over 200 kids from 18 participating barangays gathered along the coastal town of Casiguran, Aurora gathered yesterday to celebrate peace through sports and play in the latest edition of the UNESCO-acclaimed Philippine Sports Commission Children’s Games.

“This Sports for Peace program is focused on inspiring children to experience play and sports while teaching them early that no matter your belief, anyone can play with each other. Peace wins,” said PSC Chairman William Ramirez in his speech.

The event coincides with the first anniversary of renaming the undersea region Benham Rise to Philippine Rise.

Youngsters aged 8 to 12 will play various traditional games like Karerang Talon, Salok Dagat, Suot Lusot, Karerang Takbo, Mamita Went to Town, Alupihan and Pasahan Tubig.

Casiguran Mayor Ricardo Bitong thanked the PSC for staging the games and assured that the event is “the first step in producing more sports-centered programs in the town.”

The Philippine Rise is all about peace and through sports, we would like to maintain peace,” concluded Ramirez.

Ramirez and Bitong are now in talks of staging the Indigenous People’s Games in the province in October this year.
