WHEN President Rodrigo Duterte visits Benham Rise next week, he will be greeted by an open swimming competition and the many activities of the Children’s Games.

Philippine Sports Commission Chairman William Ramirez said this is what’s in store during the presidential visit on May 15 and 16.

The town of Dimapigue, the town nearest Benham Rise, will be the main venue of the sporting events that the PSC will organize.

“President Duterte will go there. And, we will have open swimming and Children’s Games there. All is set,” said Ramirez.

This will be in line with the first anniversary of the undersea region’s renaming to the Philippine Rise.

The two sets of activities will also be in line for the PSC-organized “Sports for Peace.”

Duterte’s visit will also mark the launch of the national government’s research program that will be conducted by around 50 Filipino scientists. Ramirez talked about the presidential visit while announcing that the agency will starts its sports education program this July, to be held in coordination with the United States Sports Academy, which will provide the curriculum and instructors.

US-based instructors are coming to the country to lend a hand and share their knowledge to participants, initially numbering around 50.

The program was finalized by Ramirez and USSA President and CEO Dr. T.J. Rosandich following the PSC chief’s visit to Daphne, Alabama last April 5.

The courses that will be offered will then continue on the second and third week of September, November, January, March and April 2019.
