CREATING youth and sports programs geared towards sustainable development will be the highlight of discussions during a three-workshop between the Philippine Sports Institute and the United Nations Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization this Wednesday.
Talks, which will be held at the Philsports Multipurpose Arena in Pasig, will center on the implementation of the Kazan Action Plan, an international sport policy framework and a series of actions crafted during a sports summit in Russia last July.
“It’s all about youth and sports, and sustainable development. We have people from the UNESCO, the Asian Development Bank and ASEAN coming over to discuss this,” said National Training Director Marc Velasco.
The series of talks is dubbed—the Sports and Sustainable Development Goals Youth Funshop.
Velasco said the Philippines is the first country to implement the plan, which seeks international cooperation in its programs over the next five years.
Caroline Baxter Tresise, who is UNESCO’s Consultant on Youth and Sport Social and Human Sciences, will be among the speakers with Velasco in the series of meetings.
Also speaking at the meeting are Deandra Wigati Farnita, community coach at Generations for Peace (Indonesia), and Jen Macapagal, who is the founder and president of Race2Share (Singapore/Philippines).
They will also have Cong Quach Hoang of Youth Action for Choice (Vietnam) and Lailatul Magfiroh, founder of Sporto App (Indonesia).
Baxter-Tresise met with Ramirez last July to discuss the level of involvement that UNESCO will have with the PSC and its programs.
