PARAÑAQUE Mayor Edwin Olivarez will remain as the recognized president of the Philippine Tennis Association.
The International Tennis Federation said it has informed the board of trustees of the Philta and the Philippine Olympic Committee of their decision last Oct. 20.
ITF president David Haggerty said the Federation has been disappointed over the turn of events which have taken place after Olivarez stepped down in June 2016.
Since Olivarez resigned in 2016, the leadership of Philta has been bitterly disputed by the groups of Col. Salvador Andrada and businessman-sportsman Jean Henri Lhuillier.
Haggerty expressed understanding that Olivarez is now involved with commitments associated with his position as mayor and asked all parties concerned to take action.
Olivarez stepped down as president last year to focus on his job as mayor of Paranaque City.
“The PTA has experienced governance issues for over 12 months. The ITF is concerned that this is impacting Philippine tennis,” said Haggerty.
The ITF has told the Philta there will be no more elections until the constitution and bylaws of the association has been amended.
The Philta board of trustees have been given until Nov. 15 to act on Haggerty’s letter.
The ITF chief added that the federation is now seriously considering moves to take serious action on Philta.
The POC, according to Haggerty, is in agreement that changes must take place before any elections should happen.
A written report from the POC is now in the hands of the ITF, according to Haggerty.
He added that intervention from the POC and ITF is now required.
