PH beats HK, 10-0 in Asian baseball

THE Philippines is now in the semifinals of the XXVIII BFA Asian Baseball Championship at Tien Mou Stadium in New Taipei City.

They advanced after hurdling Hong Kong, 10-0, in the playoff last Thursday.

The Filipinos were led by Adriane Bernardo who booked three runs. He took charge early tallying three runs right in the first inning.

Japan and Korea also advanced to the semifinals.

With Carlos Alberto Munoz scoring on four RBIs, the Filipinos moved further ahead in the fourth after scoring two runs.

Host Chinese Taipei also reached the semifinals after turning back Sri Lanka, 13-0.

During the preliminaries, the Filipinos pulled off a close 8-5 thriller over Sri Lanka. The Filipino batters needed to break free from a 5-5 standoff with a three-run spree at the bottom of the eighth.

They improved their win-loss record in Group A after a 2-12 shellacking at the hands of host Chinese Taipei in their previous outing.

On the other hand South Korea followed up their 18-3 victory over the Philippines in the prelims.
