THE RP Dragon Boat team has a year to undergo training to prepare for the 2018 Asian Games that will be held at Indonesia on Aug. 18 to Sept. 2.

Philippine Canoe Kayak Federation (PCKF) President Jonne Go said that the team should be well-trained for the Asian Games since the event only allows all-men and all-women participants.

“Prior to the preparation of Asian games next year there would be one more international exposure”, Go said.

According to the PCKF president, sending them to experience and participate in competitions is better than a training camp here in the country.

Before the year ends, the team will participate in the Southeast Asian Championships that will possibly hosted by Thailand.

“Naniniwala kami na ‘pag nagkasama-sama pa sila, sabi nga nung isang teammate nila, hindi mahirap manalo kapag ensayado tayo,” president Go confided.

The PCKF continually searches for aspiring athletes and promising talents who are willing to experience the sport.

The Philippine team bagged a total of 4 gold medals at set a new record with an estimated time of 41.40 seconds in the 2017 Taiwan International Dragon Boat Championship held at Changhua, Taiwan on July 9.

President Go said at the Philippine Sportswriter Association (PSA) Forum (held at the Golden Phoenix Hotel on Diosdado Macapagal Avenue, Sunrise Drive, Pasay City) that the secret of the Philippine Dragon Boat team lies within the coaching strategies and how they apply these strategies in the game.
