Danny "The King" Kingad will be keeping a close-eye on the much awaited clash between Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson and reigning ONE Flyweight World Champion Adriano "Mikinho" Moraes.
He’s not necessarily hiding who he is rooting for, either.
The showdown between the titans of the talent-rich 61.2KG division will be the main event of ONE: INFINITY 1 on 10 April at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Both of Kingad’s losses dealt by the two martial artists, but Kingad believes he has unfinished business with “Mighty Mouse”.
“For me, I am rooting for DJ to win because I want to get back at him for what he did to me,” Kingad said.
“I don’t have any problems facing either of them, both of them are great athletes but I really want to face DJ again.”
Kingad and Johnson shared the Circle in the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix Championship Finals at ONE: CENTURY PART I last October, where the latter dominated the contest en route to a unanimous decision victory after three five-minute rounds.
Now back to his winning ways after a unanimous decision nod over "The Hunter" Xie Wei at ONE: FIRE & FURY last January, Kingad is ready to test himself once more against the man hailed by many as the greatest mixed martial artist of all time.
“I want to get back at him because he’s the biggest name here. Plus, he’s not just a striker or a grappler, he is truly well rounded,” Kingad stated.
“I’ve learned a lot from him in that fight. Besides, he’s smaller than usual, I think it’s easier to find ways to win against a smaller opponent.”
His defeat at the hands of Johnson left lessons and a wealth of experience that Kingad believes are key in taking his game to the next level.
He feels he could have done more in their last encounter, and he is looking to make up for his shortcomings should he get another crack at the crafty veteran.
“If given the chance to face DJ again, I’ll focus more on the things that I failed to use in our match-up,” Kingad said.
“Of course, one of the things I need to work on is my timing. If I can time him with a power shot, I think that will be key.”
“For me, if I can get that, he’s going to fold. It’s a matter of landing it.”
Meanwhile, ONE Championship returns to the Lion City with ONE: KING OF THE JUNGLE on 28 February at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Three local athletes will banner the flag on that night as Honorio “The Rock” Banario battles Shannon “OneShin” Wiratchai, Mark “Tyson” Fairtex Abelardo takes on “Pretty Boy” Troy Worthen, and Denice “The Menace Fairtex” Zamboanga takes on Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi all in the lead card.
