Jerwin Ancajas needs to find his rhythm and timing against fellow Filipino fighter Jonas Sultan.

Ancajas’ trainer Joven Jimenez said this during a sendoff yesterday at the TV5 studios in Mandaluyong.

Sultan is known for his unpredictable style and ability to come close and connect with body shots.

“Mahirap na kalaban si Sultan. Kakaiba ang style. Mahirap,” said Jimenez.

Jimenez said that given the difficulty of his coming fight with Sultan, they had to start early.

And it meant that Ancajas had to hit the gym immediately after his fifth successful title defense last February.

The 26-year-old Ancajas was working out again almost immediately after he made his debut in the United States.

His successful stint in the US saw him finishing off Israel Gonzales in a 10-round win via technical knockout in Corpus Christi, Texas.

“Importanteng magpakita ako ng magandang laban kahit Pinoy ang kalaban ko,” said Ancajas, who added he was able to study Sultan’s fighting style on a videotape of his opponent’s last fight.

Ancajas has held the IBF junior bantamweight title since September 2016. He is ranked as the sixth-best junior bantamweight in the world by The Ring.

Sultan has a 14-3 record, with nine KOs, winning five fights in a row.

This includes an upset of two-division champion and fellow Filipino Johnriel Casimiro last September.
