Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio said this after he got hold of the Philippines’ schedule  in Group A of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Qualifiers.

“Maski qualified na tayo, I think our program has been on how we will do better everytime that we compete,” said Panlilio.

“We want to be continually improving. Iyun ang target natin,” added Panlilio.

SBP is now preparing to give Gilas a much-needed exposure to help it grow and develop into a better team.

The Philippines will have six games during its first three windows in the qualifying phase, which will span from November 2021 to June 2022.

Korea will be Gilas’ first opponent, with the two having back-to-back games on Nov. 25 and 28.

Head coach Tab Baldwin plans to bring the nationals to the United States and Europe to join tournaments.

A new set of preparations is being readied with less than two years to go before the FIBA World Cup gets going.

The  Philippines, Japan and Indonesia are co-hosting the event in 2023.

Gilas has gone into a series of tuneup games recently, including in Amman, Jordan last July as it saw action in the 10th King Abdullah Cup and finished fourth after bowing out in the semifinals.

The nationals got to learn their strengths and weaknesses, while going up against more experienced teams from Jordan, Tunisia, and Egypt.

Gilas’ preparations also include the 2021 Asia Cup, which will be hosted by Indonesia  next year.

Indonesia deferred from hosting it this year because of the rising COVID-19 cases.
