SUBIC—Whoever wins Game 3 on Saturday will have the inside track to the Chooks to-Go MPBL (Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League) Lakan Season title.

The San Juan Knights repulsed the Davao Occidental Tigers, 70-65, on Thursday to level the best-of-five National Finals at 1-1.

And with both teams almost equal in all departments, adjustments and play executions will be pivotal in the third game set at 3 p.m. at the closed-door Subic Bay Gym.

Mike Ayonayon, John Wilson, Jhonald Clarito and Larry Rodriguez will be the main weapons of the Go for Gold-supported Knights, the North Division champions who are bidding to duplicate their triumph over the Cocolife-backed Tigers in the MPBL Datu Cup.

The Tigers, led by Mike Yee, Eman Calo and Billy Robles, came from behind to nip the Knights, 77-75, in overtime on Wednesday.

The Knights averted another meltdown in Game 2 to reduce the series to a best-of-three.

Ayonayon, allowed by the NLEX Warriors to rejoin the Knights for the division and national finals, is proving his worth with an average of 21 points and 7 assists thus far.

Wilson, the pacesetter in the MVP race, is contributing 16 points a game, Clarito 9 points and 11 rebounds, and Rodriguez 8.5 points and 7.5 rebounds.

Calo is averaging 20.5 points, Yee 14 points and 9 rebounds, and Robles 10 points and 10.5 rebounds for coach Don Dulay.

According to San Juan coach Randy Alcantara they went all-out on Friday because it would be very difficult to coome back from 0-2, citing the tight schedule and the players’ yearlong layoff due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
